Characters use harsh language, with plenty of "f--k" and "s--t." Despite a strong performance by star Mel Gibson, the movie has a sour, hopeless tone. The fact remains that in "Edge of Darkness" he remains a likable man with a natural screen presence. Here he plays a Boston cop named Craven (always a dependable movie name). Edge of Darkness has all the right ingredients to get us into Mel's corner...yet the film is lifeless, slow and worst of all, boring. Edge of Darkness wastes no time in cutting to the chase as Thomas Craven (Gibson) investigates who killed his daughter Emma (Bojana Novakovic). We solve that mystery about twenty minutes later
